It was previously believed that purple dragons were exclusively female, but this is not the case. Recent environmental shifts have revealed the existence of both genders of this breed. Female behavior is well known; they are primarily herbivores but will eat meat during mating season. On the other hand, very little is known about the behavior and habits of male purple dragons.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Sweet, gentle, and motherly, Amma truly lives up to her name. Abandoned hatchlings adopted by her caretaker flock to her side, knowing they will find comfort and refuge under her wings.  But as soft and sweet as she is to her wards, she is a raging devil to anyone else, save her mate. She wasn't always this way.

Amma was the most darling of hatchlings, eager to please and full of energy. From very early on, she latched herself onto the young earth dragon in Lexington's care, Chayan. Time after time she was spurned, until one day he reciprocated her feelings. A day she spent, in perfect bliss, and the next morning she was crushed to find he had left home forever. Feeling lost and betrayed, she turned all of her love on her crippled daughter, Layan, venting her hatred and loss on everyone else. The gentle, bumbling Keola eventually broke through her icy cold and has cared for her since, but the hurt of Chayans betrayal has never really left her. They have a one daughter, Mena.
