And look! It has grown feathers! It must be close to maturing.
Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.
Furri is an archetypal playful hatchling. He's not very large, being a Sweetling, but it's his mindset that makes him so lovable. He's always up for a game of any sort, and enjoys tumbling around with the clan's gentler hatchlings. Many of the clan's mother dragons have taken a liking to him because he can keep their babies entertained and out of trouble. Fighting terrifies him, however, and whenever claws come out, he'll hide behind rocks for the rest of the day.
