Vampire Dragons are members of the undead. They sustain themselves by drinking the blood of others. It is said that they are only “alive” at night, and seem dead or asleep during the day, as they cannot endure sunlight for long periods of time. Vampire Dragons can only reproduce by changing the eggs of other dragons, puncturing the shell with their fangs and injecting venom that kills the baby inside.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Paranya Skryvat is the Vampire Queen. Her name means Pearl in Russian. The strikingly colored, lovely vampire was once a dainty Summer Dragon--Summers' Child, just a hatchling, the beloved, unknown daughter of Summers' Bride. She was hidden, because Summers' Bride feared that the old and young males of the cavernae would woo Summers' Child before she was old enough to know what would happen. As Summer grew older, she grew discontent with being shut up inside her own cave. One night she escaped, streaking into the night and into the nearby forest, green amongst green.

Summer was scared--she was alone in the forest, or so she thought. A dark stranger came to her, and she was infatuated. He told her not to be frightened, and to return to him each night, and see what the world was like. Every night the two became closer to each other, the vampire and the summer, until one night, he bit her. She forgot her name, her family, even her home. Summer's Child left, and never returned.
