Daydream Dragons are the hosts of daydreams and fantasies. They spend the majority of their time sitting on clouds, dropping daydreams down into the minds of people passing by. Humans who live near Daydream Dragons must be especially careful not to let their thoughts wander, or they could end up spending hours or even days in a trance-like waking dream state.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

"Nalaen Hrava" literally means "She who dreams, the Wild One".

Nalaen has the most vivid imagination among the dragons. She can concoct the wildest stories with the barest wisp of thoughts or the slightest spark of inspiration. She once had Randiriel hallucinating about candy flavored birds for a week. Nalaen lived in her own fantasy world on the top of a cloud palace Randiriel had built for her using magic. But she was too much of a dreamer. She fantasized about roses and handsome suitors daily but never acted upon it. It took a lot of nudging and pushing from Mae, who had just taken a mate; and S'aellya, to force Nalaen from her perch in the sky to find a mate to spend her eternity with. But secretly, and only Randiriel was privy to this: Nalaen had always liked Vuriehrin, the white dragon whom Randiriel had scooped up from the Abandoned Pile when she was just a hatchling.

Nalaen was the first of her line, and the prefix name 'Nal' is a symbol of her bloodline.
