Sapphire Dragons were so named for their brilliant color, which is reminiscent of the gemstone. This breed was historically hunted for their scales; even long after, they remain distrustful of humans. Normally a Sapphire is not very aggressive, but they will defend themselves vigorously if under attack. Their diet consists mainly of fruit, with smaller portions of large insects and other invertebrates. Males woo females with vocalizations similar to bird songs. Sapphire Dragons are very loyal to their mates, and it is not unusual that they pair for life.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Pady, like any self-respecting Sapphire, is very loyal to his mate, Moonlight, a golden Lunar Herald. He worries quite a bit for her and strives to keep her safe, happy, and well-fed at all times. He's essentially become her sworn guardian, dedicating most, if not all, of his time to ensuring her safety. He tends to go a little overboard, in fact, often getting suspicious of new dragons she talks to, stalking her during the night while she's out, and even doing the majority of her hunting for her. Moonlight certainly has her feelings about this, but she's so kind and considerate that she forgives Pady for it probably a little too leniently. Pady is especially wary of humans, given that he is a Sapphire. For as controlling and over-protective as he is of Moonlight in general, no amount of worry compares to when he hears even a mention of a human in the area. He only barely tolerates the idea of a half-human running the sanctuary his family lives in.
