Guardian Dragons have large shields on the end of their tails. Although the shields appear to be heavy, they are light, yet nearly unbreakable. Guardian Dragons use their tail-shields, as well as their wings, to deflect attacks and protect others. Often, they will guard the eggs and hatchlings of a nest while others are away. They are generally peaceful, and will not retaliate unless necessary. They have no need to forage or hunt, as they are fed by those they protect.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Shieldus Gardium is the shyest of all the leaders of the pack. He is wary of every new egg and new encounter, and is often debating with T'zark about letting in new members, but lately T'zark has been completely ignoring Shieldus and bringing new eggs in anyway. He is constantly worrying about protecting his pack, and can often be seen trailing around the edges of the forest waiting for Kennallya to return with her report. He rarely interacts with the rest of dragons other than his fellow leaders, and many thought it was a sign of him not caring for them, but when the first threat came about they saw that he would put his life on the line for their protection. During the few fights that occurred, he and T'zark fought off invaders and poachers, forming an excellent tag team, as well as proving that they did care for each other and the pack, and didn't let their arguments come between their brotherly bond.
