Dorsal Dragons are so named because they have large fins along their backs that can be raised and lowered at will. They use these fins to regulate body temperature; they raise them to cool off when they become overheated. The bright colors on the fins double as a means of attracting mates.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Proud Heights is a very traditional thinker. He sticks to the values that women should stay at home and raise the children while males go out and earn the bacon, in a literal sense for a dragon. His mate is Flaming Huntress, and she does not quite fully agree with him. Though she is fine with cleaning and raising children, she also wishes to be a bit more then just the faithful mate. Their relationship is full of tension and arguments, but neither of them seems to leave. Although Proud Heights is not happy with his mate, his traditionalist values do not allow him to leave. He believes that abandoning a mate should only occur in the most extreme of circumstances. Proud Heights finds release of is tension and anger when he goes out hunting. He forgets his problems in the freedom of the chase and the feel of his teeth sinking into flesh.
