Valentine eggs are only seen once a year. Adults’ mating seasons are very short, usually spanning a few weeks in the mid-to-late winter. These dragons were once reputed to be omens of good luck in love.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

A generous gift from a stranger, Cuorefel was graciously welcomed with an attack by one of the flight's vampires just barely after having gained her wings. Somehow she escaped, something previously unheard of, and the incident gained her the attention of the vampires' leader, Vindiction. Much to Cuorefel's distress, the undead dragon quickly gained a cautious interest in her, eventually reaching to the point where he admitted his affection and forbade the other vampires from going near her again. Although understandably distrustful, Cuorefel found Vindiction to be surprisingly gentle towards her and will at least tolerate his presence on most days. In return for the protection of the vampire coven, the valentine keeps Vindiction's affection for her a secret, as the cautious vampire considers his love to be a potentially exploitable weakness.
