This hatchling appears to be... dead?

Perhaps not. It seems to be active during the night.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Redo Shidsxoh 'Bone Cruncher' is surprisingly calm for a hatchling, much calmer than Bdisbco Redoj, his best friend and adopted sister, although even he has his moments. Nxako, Redoj's overprotective mother, tends to view him as her hatchling as well, even though he isn't her bitten-hatchling. Usually, he just allows her to fawn over him, knowing that there is no way of escaping, although he sometimes tries to escape if he is in a playful mood. He is almost never seen away from Redoj; unfortunately, this means that he is very often the victim of Nxako's affections. He can often be seen on the sidelines, laughing, whenever Redoj gets in trouble with the other dragons. Sometimes he will even join in on chasing her, just for the fun of it. Redo loves hatchlings, especially very little ones. He is fascinated by Cakkco Rakoh, and he often be found cuddled up by the little Vampire's side, sleeping.
