It was previously believed that purple dragons were exclusively female, but this is not the case. Recent environmental shifts have revealed the existence of both genders of this breed. Female behavior is well known; they are primarily herbivores but will eat meat during mating season. On the other hand, very little is known about the behavior and habits of male purple dragons.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. Ariadni, or Ari as she prefers, is the beautiful daughter of her clan's leader, Adrayla. While she has two half-siblings, Widell and an unnamed dragon, she was the only one who stayed with her clan. When she is much older and her mother thinks she is ready, she will take over as leader, but until then, she is the energetic, lovable, slightly scatterbrained, 'princess'. She always sticks her nose into trouble, and is loved greatly by everyone. In fact, nearly every male member of the clan, except her father, Diamonnd Chip, and her adopted brother, Flynnton, has got their eyes on her. Much to everyone's shock, she has recently had her first egg—a purple dragon to be named Swiva when she hatches. This news came as a great suprise to everyone except the egg's father, Chilli Chip. Not only did this disapoint her admirers, but this energetic youth was not exactly what came to mind when one thought of mothers. Despite this, Swiva is due to hatch soon and will be greatly welcomed as the heir.
