It was previously believed that purple dragons were exclusively female, but this is not the case. Recent environmental shifts have revealed the existence of both genders of this breed. Female behavior is well known; they are primarily herbivores but will eat meat during mating season. On the other hand, very little is known about the behavior and habits of male purple dragons.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Currently caught in the purple breeding season, Mystic Meme has become a very snobby dragon. No male in the scroll cave, or elsewhere for that matter, has approached her. The scroll owner advises everybody to stay away from poor Mystic for the next little bit. This has resulted in Mystic becoming rather depressed, and the scroll owner can do nothing about it. Mismay Meme tries to cheer up the other Meme from time to time, and the split dragon, Toad and Purchase, gives sympathy the other males don't. Mystic has contemplated snatching Toad and Purchase for a mate, and is now seriously thinking about doing it. The scroll owner, once she was told this plan, merely stalked back into her studies, mumbling, "Why can't she just be normal and go feed the black and vine dragon surge..."
