Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It enjoys gathering pebbles and other small rocks and putting them in a pile.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Owhl (owl) flounced about the wintry landscape trying to get accustomed to her new wings.  It was strange and exciting and the other nest mates had shared her sentiments. So she tried everyday as soon as she woke until one day she made it one foot off the ground, then two... before she knew it she was flying and far from her family. She started to miss them and turned to go back when a strong wind shook her balance and with a distressed trill, she fell and fell hard onto a soft thing. She lifted her head and saw a human before her. The human made odd sounds, moving oddly beneath her adult dog sized body. She leaned forward to lick his face in thanks and in greeting and felt her body seize on her. She sat back with a paw raised and a curious expression, wondering what it meant. She didn't know she'd never move again.
