Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. Ever since it hatched, it has been hiding among the tree leaves.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

The Dead Prospitian Dreamer used to be a very lively hatchling—jumping around all day with the adults, trying to fly with no wings, words flowing out of their mouth like a brook, as he spoke excitedly of gilded towers reaching towards the sky and clouds that could predict the future.

It ended when one night, they said that their dreams became dull. When they said that a demon had glided into the plane of existence and destroyed Prospit, the land of those gilded towers.

On that day, the word Dead was added to their name. They didn't respond to any prodding from hatchlings or adults, merely lying down and sleeping in their pile of leaves, unresponsive and comatose and yet still alive.

The clan couldn't bear to kill them, so they lie there, not quite dead, floating between the planes of heaven and hell.
