Sapphire Dragons were so named for their brilliant blue-green color, which is reminiscent of the gemstone. This breed was historically hunted for their scales; even long after, they remain distrustful of humans. Normally a Sapphire is not very aggressive, but they will defend themselves vigorously if under attack. Their diet consists mainly of fruit, with smaller portions of large insects and other invertebrates. Males woo females with vocalizations similar to bird songs. Sapphire Dragons are very loyal to their mates, and it is not unusual that they pair for life.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Confused and double-minded, Lord Azurine IV is an anxious and cowardly dragon, at least in the words of his father. In his own eyes, he is the product of merely a bad situation, one that spiraled hopelessly out of control and ultimately accumulated in him.

Lord Azurine IV has mixed feelings about his family. He enjoys his great-grandfather's company, and enjoys the company of all the other dragons that belong in his line, save for his own father. But Lord Azurine III's constant nagging and hatred of his own family have deeply poisoned Lord Azurine IV's mind, leaving him almost unable to make his own decisions and easily manipulated by others. He wants to despise his father for this, but he can't. He just can't.

Often, to wind down, Lord Azurine IV can be seen talking to his niece, Lady Azulina II. She is the only dragon he finds any emotional comfort from, and the two can often be seen talking long into the starry nights.
