When Water Dragons mature, they lose the ability to survive on land, entering the water permanently. They are adept swimmers and eat whatever fish are in the lake they live in. They tend to inhabit the same lake for their entire lives, although a few live in the ocean and swim all over the world.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Born on the shore of the lake just moments before a flash flood swept his egg down to the sea, where it was rejected by sharks unable to break the shell that was to hard, and washed up onto a beach far from his parents home, he hatched among the wild sea turtles and followed them on their journeys, believing himself the ugly duckling of the group. He became the protector of the herd he traveled with and was well loved. The turtles thought of him as a lucky charm and often cuddled with him in hopes he would not leave them unprotected in the huge open sea. He was quite content to remain with the herd, having a girl in every port with whom to converse on his travels and seeing new things on the yearly migration held his attention, so he did not seek out others of his kind.
