Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It was born with a full set of wings.

And look! Its wings have grown larger! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

This little frozen hatchling from the Dusk Divide Dragon Keep is inarticulate, but nevertheless rather merry. He doesn't use telepathy and makes unintelligible sounds most of the time. The one he repeated most often became his name, though later it was determined that the reason he made this sound was because he had a rather obstinate piece of squirrel bone stuck between his back teeth. He's fine with his name though. Or at least, he seems to be.
