Sunrise Dragons are closely related to sunset dragons. However, their behaviors differ greatly. Sunrise Dragons prefer to live in large groups and enjoy basking in the early morning sun. They are usually most active in the morning, and go to sleep in the early evening.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Ahkeela is a Sunrise dragon descended from a line of Sunrise and Sunsets, and believes in pure blood. As such, she refuses to associate with any dragon who doesn't have at least four generations of same species between them and another species. Even Spyro, a Sunset dragon with several-generations-of-pureblood Sunrise mother is shoved aside as her father is "An impure, scuffy little Sunstone." Even dragons with "pure lineages" such as Arias Byrek and Rose Aster dislike her, both for different reasons. Byrek dislikes her for how she noses into relationships and insults his beloved mate for being half Wyvern, while Rose loathes her personality and habits. Some day, Ahkeela will be nipped on the tail hard for her behavior, and the dragons of Thundercrest Island wait for this day with excited anticipation.
