Blacktip Dragons are a small, shore-dwelling breed that tend to nest on sheer ocean side cliffs. They live in groups under a dominant female, who prevents her subordinates from breeding. During the mating season, a group of Blacktips can be very noisy and smelly indeed; males produce a distinctive musky odor and loud, low-pitched honking noises in an attempt to woo the alpha female.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Kraah is the last Blacktip to join the scroll and the least of them; the smartest of the three, but often over-ruled by the other two due to his low position. He's too small and submissive to dare harass other dragons directly like Skwuck, but he's figured out other ways to sneak a dragon's hard-won kill away from him. One trick is to throw rocks at a dragon guarding a kill, but bounce them off nearby boulders so his victim will think he's throwing them from elsewhere. The second they turn away to snarl in the wrong direction, he swoops in and takes off with a morsel before they know what's happening. An especial favorite is tossing an angry crab in one's face; that one usually gives him time to make off a good-sized chunk of meat. And forget about caching a kill somewhere to eat later; Kraah knows every hiding spot on the coast. He tries to use his smarts to gain Hozonk's favor, but his rival Skwuk often steals credit for his ideas. He's named for the sounds he most often makes.
