Nebula Dragons are nocturnal creatures. With the best eyesight to be found, they are often seen staring into space. Each dragon tends to observe a particular nebula and will eventually change their colors and patterns to match it. As the nebula changes over time, the dragon changes with it. The more intricate the design of the nebula, the better chance an individual has of attracting a mate. It is said that the markings on no two Nebula Dragons will be exactly the same.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Nembi was given to the human girl, Flight, so that she might take care of the young dragon the same way she took care of Nembi's mother and father. Living among three other hatchlings cared for by Flight, Nembi enjoyed spending her days playing with her sister, the Sunset dragon Nomet, and a fellow Nebula dragon, Vega Nuria. Vega was raised in the Mountains of Elgar by Flight's friend and fellow dragon-caretaker, Ember Nuria, therefore it was only occasionally that Nembi and Vega were able to play with each other as hatchlings. When it was discovered that Vega is the granddaughter of Flauga the North, who is Nembi's mother, (therefore making Nembi Vega's aunt) the two took it as a surprise, being so close in age, and it's a common joke between Nembi and Vega. When she became a full grown Nebula, Nembi chose to travel the world and she can now only be seen during her annual visit to the Mountains of Elgar.
