Red Dragons are similar to typical story book dragons. They shoot flames, can fly, etc. However, they aren’t evil creatures as depicted in myths and won’t go around raiding castles, killing knights, or kidnapping princesses. They live in a variety of habitats, from forests to coastlines to abandoned castles, usually in warm climates, and eat whatever living creatures they can find.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Sango is one of the earliest daughters hatched to Kentaro and Kiyomi. Her name means "Coral" in Japanese. She is both a fierce, and loving dragon, with a soft spot for hatchlings. She is mated to Nobuyuki, her best friend since they were little. Upon reaching maturity, both were too scared to admit their feelings, even though they ran deep. Nobuyuki finally gathered the courage, and pulled Sango close, and whispered that he loved her, he had always loved her. Sango started crying, and admitted that she loved him as well. Nobuyuki has kept his surname Great Shield, as a mark of both his heritage and his position as a protector of the colony; Sango meanwhile has modified her mated surname, she is the first of many Warm Shields that the colony has been blessed with. Every other Warm Shield in the colony is a descendant of Nobuyuki and Sango. They love each other so much, and feel blessed to have each other no matter what. They are soul mates, and couldn't ask for more.
