Striped Dragons come in a dazzling array of colors complemented by an intricate pattern of stripes. These bright colors and patterns help attract their favorite food, insects. Because their prey is so tiny, striped dragons must spend a large portion of their day eating. The color of the offspring is usually determined by the dragon’s mate.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Opal is one of the few dragons to have a certain mate in a close-knit family clan led by Dionysthenes and Epitheus. Opal is the mate of Adara, the only sunset dragon in the clan. Opal is very gentle and docile, often playing with the clan hatchlings as if he was one himself. He is one of the jobless subdorniates, and thus is usually only able to watch over the chicks while the parents are out hunting.
