Deep Sea Dragons, as their name suggests, spend most of their time in the darkest depths of the sea. They have a bioluminescent dorsal spine that serves to attract prey and communicate with their own kind. As with many deep sea animals, they generally eat whatever they can manage to bait. They rarely leave the ocean floor, surfacing only during breeding season. When they do choose to travel to the shallower depths, they avoid bright lights and will only come up far away from shore.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Nanetoy of the Southeast lives in the deepest part of the Southeastern Sea. In the dark of the deep waters, he can be spotted gliding smoothly through the water as he patrols his domain. As a hatchling Nanetoy grew up in the Lake of Elgar, hidden from the world in the Mountains of Elgar. His guardian, a human girl named Flight, discovered his egg while swimming in the Lake one day and raised it alongside three other hatchlings. Due to the fact that Nanetoy never left the water as a hatchling, he never became close to any of his brothers and sisters, all dragons cared for by Flight. The only dragons that Nanetoy has ever interacted with are water-type dragons, such as the Water dragon Fyren of the West and the waterhorse named Caspian Nuria, who was raised by Flight's friend, Ember Nuria. As an adult, Nanetoy prefers water creatures to those of the earth or sky. He now rarely leaves the Southeaster sea, were he is charged with protecting its inhabitants.
