Magi Dragons are, as their name suggests, primarily magic users. They rarely use physical forms of attack. They eat anything they can kill, which is almost everything. They won’t kill unprovoked except when hunting, although they may kill humans if in danger. Their strong magic makes them one of the most feared breeds of dragons.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Not everything Roaring Lion Productions makes is a masterpiece for the ages, as they must keep a constantly-changing lineup of plays to maintain audience interest. One popular series always follows the same structure—some small and harmless creature gets magically expanded to tremendous size, often gaining fangs or venom in the process, and must be defeated by intrepid heroes, who always triumph in the nick of time.

Ostigan is in charge of creating the mutant creatures, as using real ones for each performance would be impractical. Some months, his job is easy. Creatures like rats, cockroaches, spiders, and snakes are always unnerving on their own, so Ostigan doesn't need to do more than make scaled-up models and turn them improbable colors. Plays like Invasion of the Ferocious Monster Slugs, though, take all of his ingenuity for the creatures to be at all scary.
