Holiday dragons are a very mysterious breed. They are only seen during winter, and even then it is hard to catch a glimpse of one. They are responsible for the general cheer that spreads during the holidays. In essence, they are the “Spirits of Winter.”

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

The human girl named Flight lives in a large cave near the shore of the Lake of Elgar, hidden within the Mountains of Elgar. One day, as Christmas neared, she discovered two eggs, both shining with a glorious luster. Flight brought the eggs home and, while also caring for the hatchlings she was currently raising, she raised the eggs with gentleness and care. During the nights, Flight could often be heard singing carols to both the hatchlings and the eggs. Sklad is the eldest of the Twin Carols, and also the most serious and proud; his name means "Harmony". Together with his brother, Himig, whose name means "Melody", Sklad now lives in a large cave near the top of the Mountains of Elgar, where it is always snowing. Outside their cave, everyday, a song can always be heard coming from inside. On Christmas day Sklad and Himig leave their cave and travel the world, singing a song more beautiful than their own scales and sharing it with the world until January 10.
