Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Kalil is one of the lucky dragons to have been raised by Remy. Remy is the human caretaker of the colony known as Ryuu Tanima. Kalil hatched into one of Remy's biggest clutches ever, this is largely because she forgot to distribute the eggs she had found, and next thing she knew, her cottage was filled with tiny dragons. Kalil was raised alongside his brothers Leviy and Adam, and their sisters Gixi, Biti, Uriti, and Yaffa. Kalil's name means "Wealth, Crown", since he has always been such a handsome dragon.
