Pillow Dragons are covered in enormous amounts of fur affectionately referred to as fluff. Despite their deceivingly large size, they can still fly even with such tiny wings because their bodies are remarkably light. Pillow Dragons have a habit of sleeping for up to eighteen hours a day, waking only in short bursts. During their few waking hours, they take the time to hunt for prey. Once a pillow dragon becomes an adult, its fur grows very slowly. Pillow dragon fur is used to make very expensive and valuable cloth known as “dragon cashmere.”

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Legible is one of the few Pillows in his cave who can write. There are others, like his friend named Considering, who can read and write the Draconic language, but they are often busy with important work such as keeping the scroll up to date. Legible instead acts as the cave's scribe. His ambidexterity allows him to write on multiple sheets of parchment at once. If a dragon needs something written, such as a reminder or an entire story, Legible is there to help. He assists with the maintenance of the cave's scroll, which hangs on the wall for all to see, and is a huge help to his human mentor. Because Legible is such a "word nerd" he does not have a lot of time for family. Although he's not completely childless, he has never truly "settled down" with a mate and could never dedicate himself to being a fatherly type. Because of this, sadly, one of the cave's most useful dragons is also one of the loneliest.
