Black Dragons are warriors. They are strong and capable in battles of force, but also ample magic users, capable of devastating opponents with their spells. Their bright eyes give them excellent night vision, which is why they generally hunt during the night.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Ciaran is a generally cheerful dragon, who always likes to see the bright part of the day. He is very strong with magic, coming from a lineage dominated by fellow blacks, golds and whites. However, he is oddly reluctant to use it, preferring not to mess about with the way of things, living by the saying "Whatever will be, will be". He was found as a hatchling by Ra'eo, who treated him like a son and little brother. Ra'eo taught him everything, from basic magic to loop-de-loops in the sky. In turn, Ciaran kept a close eye on Lonely Hour of Midnight, a very shy and quiet Sunrise. The pair became close friends. Ciaran unexpectedly took a mate in Georgina, and had one daughter, Peppermint Tea. He says it was a one-off, and both are searching for lifelong mates. But who knows, Ciaran may have already found it in the most unexpected place.
