Black Dragons are warriors. They are strong and capable in battles of force, but also ample magic users, capable of devastating opponents with their spells. Their bright eyes give them excellent night vision, which is why they generally hunt during the night.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Darker Tourmaline, who grew with Velvety Shells, Raining Sapphires, and Silvery Willow was a gift for Blackening Storm. It was expected he would be a she-dragon and they could live a long, happy life. That's not how it turned out. Darker Tourmaline is Polarg's greatest hunter. He'll go off for days at a time and return with enough food to last a week! He can more than feed all the dragons in Polarg's group. His friend, Blackening Storm, battles with him when Darker Tourmaline is forbidden to hunt. He never thought he'd ever settle down and have a family. He was too restless for that. Nevertheless, he knew he had to be the one to settle down with Fluttering Daisies, and so he was.
