Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It spends its time pouncing on insects.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing. It is also now covered in brightly colored stripes.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

It was a terrible, terrible accident. They really weren't thinking what they were doing. Alcohol may have been involved. But the repercussions were far reaching, and this poor little dragon was one of them. His father really didn't mean to—well—be the grandfather as well as the father, but when the story came out, there was only one thing that could be done. The infant, knowing the shame of his family, readily agreed to the freezing process, meaning he'd never grow and have children of his own. Instead, he started a campaign to educate all dragon trainers in the art of making sure mistakes like him never happen again.
