Dorsal Dragons are so named because they have large fins along their backs that can be raised and lowered at will. They use these fins to regulate body temperature; they raise them to cool off when they become overheated. The bright colors on the fins double as a means of attracting mates.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. PurpleVinrDorsal is a very sick Purple Dorsal Dragon. Her mother is also her sister, and her father is also her grandfather. This led to her feet being horrible deformed by a birth defect. She can still walk, but it is very difficult and takes a lot of energy. In the wild, she would probably have been left to die; but her owner took pity on her and built her a comfy stable to live in. PurpleVinrDorsal lives in comfort, swaddled by warm, soft blankets. She only gets fed the best bits of meat and plants brought back by other dragons from her cave. She never need worry about predators or human poachers. She has the best life that could possibly be given to her.
