Holiday dragons are a very mysterious breed. They are only seen during winter, and even then it is hard to catch a glimpse of one. They are responsible for the general cheer that spreads during the holidays. In essence, they are the “Spirits of Winter.”

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

She lives on the barren and craggy slopes of the Mountain of Light on the edge of the Arctic Circle, a peak capped with snow year round, with a vantage point where she can see out across the tundra for miles in every direction, and watch the aurora lights shimmer like twisting ribbons in the sky. And every long, cold, lonely winter night, Aerasa honors the warmth of the sun, trudging to the mountain peak and lighting the sky with flame from her mouth, visible from the foothills like a beacon. Although many would not take her job of loneliness, her flaming beacon brings hope to all those who see it. On summer days when the night is short, Aerasa leaves her secluded mountain home to travel south and help care for the hatchlings and eggs with the other dragons, and she is known for her warm heart and the way she brings light and happiness to everyone she meets.
