Dorsal Dragons are so named because they have large fins along their backs that can be raised and lowered at will. They use these fins to regulate body temperature; they raise them to cool off when they become overheated. The bright colors on the fins double as a means of attracting mates.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Nofhla is a dark, reclusive dragon. During her childhood, she was always shoved aside in favor of shinier eggs, and on the night before Christmas was informed that if she didn't reach adulthood soon she would be expelled from the cave. She grew, much to everyone's surprise, and was grudgingly granted a place in this cave, which she accepted with a glare. She would like people to believe that she is just simply introverted, but in fact she is bitter and keeping company with other dragons only irritates and upsets her. The exception is Tyrriphor, the Stone dragon she grew up with and loves passionately. She is only comfortable with him. The rest of the time she spends either alone or glaring at the carefree hatchlings.
