And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.
Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.
This hatchling was forced out of its egg prematurely.
Forced out of his egg prematurely, Coactus was then kicked out to survive on his own at the first hint of his wings appearing. When he finally found his permanent cave it was decided he would become one of the Frozen Ones. Not entirely sure what he has done to cause Fate to take such an interest, Coactus spends his life avoiding the notice of as many dragons as he can while pessimistically waiting for interesting times.
