Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. This hatchling seems to be filled with a fell, inner flame.

And look! Its wings have grown, and it’s become rather vicious and wary of others of its kind.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Heartwood is a highly energetic hatchling. He is almost always hyperactive, helpful, and easy-to-please, which has won him many friends. Unfortunately, it has also made him practically a slave to the female Hellfire Wyverns—many of them take advantage of his easygoing, happy nature and his boundless energy to make him perform many boring, menial tasks. Many of the adults like him, though, and they often manage to find excuses for him not to have to work for the female Hellfires. When he isn't helping them or chatting with his friends, he generally exercises his competitive nature by playing games with the other hatchlings. He is a favorite among many of the hatchling-loving adults, and is especially close with Sparking Flaring Burning.
