Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It has bright blue eyes, and is as clumsy as any other hatchling, but it never seems to get injured.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

When Dearly discovered a white egg in the hollow of a waterfall, it was the dragons' initial hope that the new hatchling might grow to become an accomplished healer. So far, however, such dreams have not been realised. Emboldened by his species' natural tendency not to get seriously injured easily, Shine Rush has become something of a daredevil. Often accompanied by his adopted sister, Liquorice Lace, he will sneak out of the cave to embark on adventures of exploration, excitement and danger. So far, he has never been badly hurt, but this does not stop Kione from worrying for his safety.
