Red Dragons are similar to typical story book dragons. They shoot flames, can fly, etc. However, they aren’t evil creatures as depicted in myths and won’t go around raiding castles, killing knights, or kidnapping princesses. They live in a variety of habitats, from forests to coastlines to abandoned castles, usually in warm climates, and eat whatever living creatures they can find.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Redmok, or Big Red to almost everyone in the cave, is one of the guardians of the Eight Eyes of the World that were passed down through his owner's family. Angel entrusted eight of her dragons with one of the Eyes each, but why she chose some dragons and not others is something she keeps to herself. The red Eye represents bravery and strength, two things that Big Red has in abundance, among other things. He is merciless against foes and never lets his guard down. Even to the ones he was raised with, he comes across as somewhat abrasive and a little too willing to shout at them. Indeed, it's almost too easy to set off his temper and his allies only get a slightly longer leash than his enemies do. He doesn't truly think his cavemates deserve it--sadly, that's hard to express for him. Being a Red dragon, often he can be seen incubating eggs--and arguing with Violet if she gets in the way--or pacing in front of the cave in which he resides.
