Sophrosyne Dragons are a rare sight, typically making themselves known only to protect and heal the vulnerable. A visit from one serves as a reminder that kindness prevails, and that there’s always hope for positive change. While it is known that they possess the power to reverse botched spells, some claim they can even cure methodically-cast curses. This has never been formally documented, but these dragons have been seen arriving in the aftermath of violence, and the scars of tragedy seem to heal faster in their wake. The feathers of a Sophrosyne have thus become a symbol of perseverance and light in the face of darkness.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Hide and his mate Bluebird are the leaders of the "Temporary Shelter for Sweetling Hatchlings". Every year during the first half of February a genuine flood of heart-speckled eggs and hatchlings suddenly appears, and it's hard work to find a home for all. Experience has shown that life in the clan is too stressful for most Valentines to deal with, so they search homes for each and every one of the little ones, preferably a long way away from the eccentric individualists and romance-cynicists of their clan.

Hide's specific talent lies in finding the right clan for each hatchling so they can be truly happy in their new homes. The fact that that new home is always Dimar's clan is just a lucky coincidence.
