And look! It has grown wings and turned red on its back! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

The son of two aggressive parents, this hatchling is often a key part of their dastardly plans. Namely, they'll entrust some unwitting Pink dragon to babysit him for the day, instructing them to be sure to put him to bed exactly "when the sun sets." Of course, since he's the offspring of two nocturnal breeds, this goes horribly wrong and results in a lot of screaming, biting, crying, and trauma while also making the Pink dragon feel horribly inept. This of course greatly pleases his parents, who laugh and laugh about the whole affair before killing and eating his babysitter for being inept.
