Moonstone Dragons are named after the orb on their tails, which resembles the gem of the same name. They are nocturnal and gather energy through the absorption of moonlight with their orbs. They seem to glow with a lunar light and are a very gentle breed, feeding off of plants and the moons’ power.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Moondapple was hatched on the brink of dawn, one of the worst times for her species. Moonstone dragons draw their strength from the moon and are vulnerable to the moonless daylight hours. Moondapple's parents fully expected her to die within the hour of her hatching and were amazed when she pulled herself through the entire day. Weak and hungry, the first rays of moonlight that night were like water to Moondapple. It took many scary days and long nights for Moondapple to reach the strength she should have had from the moment she was born, but after a full recovery, her parents were convinced they had a miracle in their claws. Moondapple lived a perfectly healthy life from then on, before leaving the cave to find her own mate.
