Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Tiny Silver Tinsel is of questionable pedigree, according to many of its fellow dragons.  This might explain why it remains a hatchling.  Thankfully, Tiny Silver Tinsel is not alone in its plight.  It is easily the most noticeable of the questionable hatchlings, which can attract unwanted attention to both itself and the other hatchlings.  Because of this, it frequently coats its shiny scales with dark clay to lessen the chances of it being noticed as it moves around the cave.
