Black Dragons are warriors. They are strong and capable in battles of force, but also ample magic users, capable of devastating opponents with their spells. Their bright eyes give them excellent night vision, which is why they generally hunt during the night.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Dracopenguin is the ruler of her entire Cave; sharing the name of her owner dracopenguin, this noble Black Dragon has been chosen as scroll-keeper. Although she knows most of the dragons in the Cave, she has a particular affinity with the Halloween Dragons and the members of the Vocaloid clan, and can often be seen hiding in the shadows listening to the Vocaloids as they rehearse their songs. Despite her breed's tendency to violence, she tries to be as kind and fair as possible when ruling. Draco also oversees the naming of all the dragons, often becoming very excited when she finds a name that she likes which has not yet been claimed by another scrollkeeper; she prides herself on her naming talent. Although her official mate is Red, she is also very close to Oliver, Marshall-Lee, and particularly Kaito, whom she loves dearly.
