Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It has bright blue eyes, and is as clumsy as any other hatchling, but it never seems to get injured.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Tylee is the most adored, and adoring, hatchling in the White Cave. While he has many hatchling friends who have been charmed with eternal youth, Tylee stands out as the most affectionate.  He enjoys trying to crawl up onto the laps of his keepers, and often succeeds. Fortunately, he is eternally small, as even hatchlings are large enough to make a lapful!  Doted upon by his mother, Ayla, Tylee is very loving and well-adjusted.  Even the most cantankerous of the adults will tolerate his presence without lashing-out (no small wonder for Bittercress and Mary Jane!).
