Black Dragons are warriors. They are strong and capable in battles of force, but also ample magic users, capable of devastating opponents with their spells. Their bright eyes give them excellent night vision, which is why they generally hunt during the night.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Calm to an extreme degree, Eugene seems to be the complete opposite of the hatchling he once was. Scars littered across his body tell of the fights he often got into, and often lost. He bears a deep dislike for the strange Khezef after one of their fights led to his throat being damaged. Sadly Cherubmin's healing powers had no effect on the wound, leading Eugene to only be able to make low growling noises now.

After maturing, Eugene's fighting prowess has greatly increased. His command of magic, specifically that of the shadow and radiant domains, has allowed him to fight without allowing his opponents close to his body. Even if they were able to, many would find that his physical prowess surpasses even his magical ability.

Like much of his owner's brood, Eugene is most active at night. Most often hunting alone, he will occasionally be accompanied by Faerune on nights that Glypha watches over Trys.

Strangely, he appears to fear Daegot.
