Seasonal Dragons take on the characteristics of the season during which they are born. Thus, eggs that are laid in spring match the pink flowers and green buds of spring, and those that are laid in the summer grow to depict the bright green of the forest trees and the yellow of the sun. Eggs laid in autumn display the bright colors of leaves falling from trees, and those that are laid during winter take on the appearance of the icy snow.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Akiko Rina is a sweet, lighthearted dragon who embodies her name, "autumn joy". Akiko, like the other seasonals in the cave, is cursed to enter a deep sleep until autumn season, but she enjoys her time awake more then she dreads 'the sleep'. She loves to play amongst the autumn trees in the vast valley below the cave, hiding in the colorful leaves and playing with the other dragons. Akiko is always smiling and cheerful, soaring as she enjoys her time to play; due to this, the other dragons adore her. However, her sister Akiko Nemesis is a shadow on her life; Nemesis is guaranteed to make Akiko sad with her vengeful nature, and a disastrous event on the last night of the season has left mental scars for Akiko. No one else but their master knows what happened, and she tries to keep peace in Akiko's world as she deals with the trauma. Overall, despite the event in Akiko's past, she remains joyful throughout her season, and does not resent her life in the cave.
