It was previously believed that purple dragons were exclusively female, but this is not the case. Recent environmental shifts have revealed the existence of both genders of this breed. Female behavior is well known; they are primarily herbivores but will eat meat during mating season. On the other hand, very little is known about the behavior and habits of male purple dragons.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. Abaraxia's physical appearance is typical of dragons of her breed. She is quite large in stature, yet she manages to maintain the sleek elegance of the purple dragon. Like other dragons, her features are a majestic fusion of serpentine and feline traits; her form is sinuous and draped in violet scales that shimmer in the pale light of her abode; her legs bear a close similarity to that of a cat, although slightly more slender and elongated; her head appears much like a snake's with her dark eyes set deep into a bone-like hood, reflecting back royal purple light at all who match her gaze; Her wings, like her limbs, are elongated and jut out of her back. When unfolded, there is a pale violet membrane running between the hollow bones.

Her psyche and powers are much like that of other purples as well, though she believes herself to be unique. She is on a self-imposed exile from the light of day. She's carved out her lair in a massive cavern system and works vicariously through her thralls
