Silver Dragons are arguably one of the most beautiful types of dragons. They live in high altitude habitats such as mountains. Silver females eat meat only when a male dragon brings it to them as part of courtship, though they are typically highly-independent. They possess an almost magical aura that lights up any place they are in, and are looked upon with awe by humans and animals alike.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Rayein Damicke cannot stand being cramped in the clan's cave for more than short durations of time--the skywing blood in her compels her to roam the open skies. She is atypical in that she will seek out meat on her own, preferring fish over red meat, and will skim the surfaces of rivers and lakes to catch fish in her jaws. Rayein is disinterested in finding a mate, especially since most dragons only wish to court her for her glowing silvered beauty, or for the prospect of siring silver hatchlings. Any hopeful dragons attempting to win her over are driven off with great lashings from her tail or pelted with fish guts. The only male dragons she has let close to her are the white Gaillen, and the young black Roark, who has not sought to court her despite pressure from his mother Aldith. At night she is often seen twisting and diving in the sky with the moon and stars like a slash of quicksilver, earning her the nickname "Twilight Skydancer".
