Avatars of Destruction possess a volatile disposition. They thrive on chaos and decay, and their horns and plated scales are as hard as forged metal. Because of their affinity with darkness and the destructive forces of nature, it was once thought that these dragons were omens of ill fortune.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Motharen, like her counterpart Caterpira, appeared suddenly in the cave without warning. However, the dragons took a liking to Caterpira, who was a calm hatchling, as opposed to Motharen, who was rowdy, despite the fact that the two were both raised by the same dragon, Chrysali the Avatar of Change. She was also very clumsy, as she frequently hurt the other hatchlings by accident. As a result, she was scorned by the other dragons, who kept her away from the other hatchlings as she grew up. However, Caterpira often snuck her way past the adults to see Motharen and cheer her up. As she grew up, Caterpira ended up being a young dragon caregiver, while Motharen was alone and bitter. However, she considerably softens up whenever Caterpira comes to see her.
