Sunrise Dragons are closely related to sunset dragons. However, their behaviors differ greatly. Sunrise Dragons prefer to live in large groups and enjoy basking in the early morning sun. They are usually most active in the morning, and go to sleep in the early evening.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Barit-Khepri, as her clan's first sunrise dragon, was adopted as an egg by the two dragons who were happiest about getting up very early every day to care for her—Umm-Khepri the skywing dragon and Surya Savita the gold dragon. They taught her their usual morning ritual dance for the rising sun, and she performs it with them daily, her hide reflecting the brilliant colors of the morning and her mind radiating joy empathically to all around her. (The sunset dragons are the only ones who seem impervious to her joy—they just groan and roll over in bed. But then, she's usually asleep when they're happiest, too.) She is a cheerful and sociable dragon, frequently surrounded by a crowd of friends of multiple species. Even the chickens like her.
