Holiday dragons are a very mysterious breed. They are only seen during winter, and even then it is hard to catch a glimpse of one. They are responsible for the general cheer that spreads during the holidays. In essence, they are the “Spirits of Winter.”

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Shimmering and his brother Glittering were found during the Winter of Wishes, alongside several other kinds of holiday dragon that Lurhstaap had sought in the wild, in vain, for years. Like the other newfound wild-borns, the two Wrappingwings were much spoiled and cooed over—by Lurhstaap himself, by the older, captive-bred Wrappingwings, by Schyller the Copper creche-minder... pretty much everybody. Even the dourest Halloween dragons brought them strange, dark little gifts when no one else was looking. Something about them brought out the best in everyone around them, a trait they retain as adults.

Shimmering is playful, and loves winter. He makes most of the snow-sculptures and the more decorative icicles that appear around the Breedery at that time. Chubby from helping his brother Glittering with recipes, he always has mugs full of mead or similar treats to share. Shim is bored by other seasons, so he sleeps a lot, or dallies with females—anything to pass time until next winter.
