Crimson Flare Pygmies are named after their small size and speed. They are fast and love to fly up and down in steep climbs and dives, giving the impression of a flare of color in the sky. These dragons travel in swarms during migration seasons and are very social. They live in tropical locations or wherever it is warm, and they are often seen near active volcanoes.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Pygmy dragons are the smallest category of dragons, being on the same scale as domesticated animals. They are often found around concentrated populations of dragons, relying on their larger brethren to ward away potential predators and leave scraps. As such, the majority of a pygmy’s diet is scavenged. Due to their tiny size, pygmies do not breed with larger varieties of dragons.

The Signless is a very peaceable dragon, always trying to settle feuds between others and make sure that no species is getting bullied in the cave, something that isn't always appreciated by both parties but more often than not, his efforts are quite appreciated, with the constant exception of the head of the Makara Clan. The Signless has quite a past with the leader of the Makara Clan, years of violence that have been settled for the most part but stir again with a forbidden romance on the Makara side, as his daughter, Karkat, has become the mate of the youngest Makara, Gamzee, a fact that actually doesn't bother the Signless much except when it comes to his daughter's safety and the returning Makara violence that disrupts the peace that the Signless so desperately strives for every day.
